Web Design Process

Our Process Phases

Web Design Process

Organization and structure are essential for design excellence and the steps included in our 5 phase web design process ensure consistently high and uniform results. Each phase is briefly summarized below:

  1. Discover

During this phase we meet with you to discuss the details of your project and conduct necessary research to prepare for the design phase.

  2. Design

This is the phase during which we perform the steps to create an initial design for approval or changes, collect or write content, insert or design images and graphics, then produce the final design.

  3. Build

All of the necessary back-end work, such as layout, coding, and styling modifications is completed during this phase.

  4. Launch

These are the steps that we complete prior to publishing your website live on the World Wide Web.

  5. Maintain

This phase is essential for the continuing high performance and improvement of your website. New Domain Design offers a choice of 3 structured maintenance plans to fit your needs.

User-Centered Design

Web Design Process

We consistently follow a user-centered web design process for every website or blog that we build. Everything is done with user experience (UX) at the forefront, leading to the development of an integrated, informed and responsive graphic user interface (GUI). Wikipedia describes user-centered design (UCD) as, “a framework of processes (not restricted to interfaces or technologies) in which usability goals, user characteristics, environment, tasks and workflow are given extensive attention at each stage of the design process”.

Usability.gov defines user-centered design as having the following 4 phases:

  • Specify the context of use: Identify the people who will use the product, what they will use it for, and under what conditions they will use it.
  • Specify requirements: Identify any business requirements or user goals that must be met for the product to be successful.
  • Create design solutions: This part of the process may be done in stages, building from a rough concept to a complete design.
  • Evaluate designs: Evaluation – ideally through usability testing with actual users – is as integral as quality testing is to good software development.
